For Information: Inter-Network Collaboration (INC) scheme

The INC scheme is an arrangement under which libraries which belong to the geography based document supply networks in the NHS in England may carry out reciprocal document supply and interlending with the members of the other networks in the scheme.  INC stands for Inter-Network Collaboration.

The geography based networks are EDEN (East of England), KSS SENDS (Kent, Surrey and Sussex), LENDS Network (London), PANDDA (North), SWIMS Network (South), and MIDS (Midlands).

Libraries may alternatively or additionally be members of subscription based interlibrary collaborative schemes such as NULJ or PLCS. For more information on those networks, please contact them directly.

The INC scheme began on 1st May 2018.  Details of the networks in the scheme and how to make use of the scheme are below.

Library staff should carry out the normal source checks for all articles. Copyright Fee Paid (CFP) articles should only be requested under certain circumstances or as a last resort. See the copyright page for more information on when and how to apply for CFP articles.

Important information about using the scheme:

  • Please see the good practice guidelines, and refer to local regional/local protocols for supplementary information.  See also the summary/training aid created by the scheme leads.  This is also available in ppt format.
  • Please state clearly when requesting from another network which network you belong to, and your network code within that network.
  • Always check whether a potential supplying library has last resort status (see last column in the grid above), and apply elsewhere if possible.
  • Please treat LENDS and MIDS as separate networks, even though they share a catalogue. For those outside LENDS and MIDS, please ignore the ‘Request publication’ option on the Lawmunion catalogue.
  • For e-journals which are part of large bundles, e.g. ClinicalKey or Wiley Nursing and Medicine collection, please approach libraries in your own network first.
  • Book loaning is at the discretion of the loaning library.
  • In your library record on HLISD please do not select the other networks in the INC scheme – please only list the collaborative networks of which you are a member.
