HEALER

Health Information and Libraries for Evaluation and Research (HEALER) aims to increase the production of good quality health information management research and to ensure that a co-ordinated approach to research into health information management is established so that it is clear what research is taking place and where the outputs are stored.

HEALER shares some of the goals of the LIS Research Coalition who were formed in 2009 as a three-year project. Its broad mission is to facilitate a co-ordinated and strategic approach to LIS research across the UK.

Membership:

Membership of the HEALER group includes representatives from:

  • NHS LKS Library Leads / NHS library and knowledge staff

  • University Departments of Library and Information Sciences

  • University Departments of Health Sciences with researchers interested in health information

  • Publishers (in particular the Editor of Health Information and Libraries Journal)

  • NICE: NHS Evidence Service

  • National Institute for Health Research

However, membership and length of service to the HEALER network is flexible according to the representational relevance for the needs of the health information management research community and the availability of the representative.

Objectives:

  • To identify all the academic institutions which support Library and Information Science research, and to establish contact with these organisations.

  • To identify areas that need research

  • To set up a Google search engine to search the websites of these institutions and identify current research.

  • To share information about research calls in this field.

  • To set up an online discussion list to support health information management research.

  • To identify sources of funding and make this information readily available.

  • To host a conference to support research skills.

  • To create a database with details of all NHS funded research into health information management.
