Information Management & Technology

Purpose

The SHALL Information Management & Technology Group (SIMTG) seeks to ensure that the underpinning technological infrastructure and related processes effectively and efficiently deliver the electronic resources funded by the 10 SHAs in England to end users in the NHS and partner organisations in support of patient care, education, research and management decision making.

It also seeks to provide a forum to support the seamless integration of other resources and systems purchased nationally, regionally and locally, for use by the NHS and partner organisations, in pursuit of the user-orientated experience of simple, fast and easy access, avoidance of duplication, and value for money.

The Group comprises representatives from the SHAs and key partners, including the NHS Infrastructure Directorate, JANET(UK), Higher Education, CHILL and social care.

Role
  • To provide a strategic, co-ordinated and informed approach to the integration of library and knowledge systems (and related processes) in the NHS, at national, regional and local levels.

  • To represent the SHAs and the NHS England library community and work with key national partners to deliver a national technical infrastructure for online knowledge and library services.

  • To add value by working collaboratively in the exploitation of technologies to realise benefits for users of library and knowledge services, through sharing best practice, horizon scanning and making recommendations for appropriate actions.

  • To facilitate technological integration through recommendations and guidance on information architecture and standards.

  • To influence policy on ICT issues that impact on access to, delivery of and quality of knowledge and library services.

  • To act as a unified voice in discussions on technology issues with partner organisations and suppliers within and outside the NHS .

  • To support library staff in the technical aspects of the development of e-learning services.

Further information is available in the Group's Terms of Reference (revised May 2011).
